Ok before I start a whole discussion, yes I agree the camera is the most important item. So hear me out on this one.
Need a wedding photographer….Read on.
As a professional photographer I always do what I can to complete a job. That means making sure I have backups of my gear. Coming from experience, gear WILL break. I have locked up a camera during a ceremony and I burned up a flash during a very dark reception. No big deal that is what backups are for.
What about the actual wedding photos? Everything is on the camera cards.
I consider protecting a couples images a extremely important part of my day and the gear I use just as important. I never carry my cards in my camera bag and I always shoot to multiple cards changing throughout the day. I picked up this great lowepro card case several years ago. The 2 best functions are it allows me to carry 6 cards on one side then still has a area that holds 4 more cards. I always rotate empty cards on one side then used cards on the other. The other feature is the Velcro belt loop and I can carry this on me at all times. Big reason is if someone steals my camera bag they don’t get the images on the cards. I can tell you stories of wedding photographers out on location and having a bag stolen and I have asked if all the cards they shot to during the wedding day were in the bag. Every time the answer is yes. This case also has a great feature to carry 8 batteries, I choose the rechargeable they are really worth the extra money.
I started out shooting film and we always did what we could to protect the final images. Even never processing the rolls at the same time. This case helps me protect my work and what a client has paid me to do, this is why its a huge part of my gear.
