Hey there! I’m Curtis Wallis, a wedding photographer here in Columbus, Ohio. I’ve been in the business for over 30 years now, ever since I moved here from New York and opened my photography studio back in 2003. In that time, I’ve photographed over 400 weddings all around Central Ohio – including at the stunning venues featured in this article. As someone who has worked first-hand with these amazing venues, I want to provide insider tips to help you find the perfect spot for your big day. On my website you can see examples of my photography style and portfolio. My goal is to deliver timeless images from your wedding day that you’ll cherish forever. Let’s work together to make it magical!
Wedding Venue 1: Darby House
During my visit to Darby House this summer, where I had the privilege to photograph a fantastic wedding., I was completely charmed by the venue’s distinctive charm and unique spaces. It’s a one-of-a-kind venue, offering a range of diverse settings perfect for your special day. The Racing Room can comfortably accommodate up to 250 guests and comes equipped with a bar, fireplace, piano, and breathtaking views of Big Darby Creek. The venue also features a dining room, a bridal suite, and a groom’s room for your convenience.
What stood out for me were the unique photo spots for couples. My personal favorite was the old barn. It was a delightful experience as the friendly staff loaded us all onto a golf cart and chauffeured us from one location to the next. The old barn, in particular, offered a rustic yet pristine white backdrop, which accentuated the beauty of my bride in her white dress.
For those considering an outdoor setting, Darby House’s Waterside Terrace can accommodate 250 guests, providing a refreshing change of scenery. They offer transparent pricing, creating unique catering, and bar service packages to suit your needs. With over 100+ 5-star reviews, it’s easy to see why the venue is recognized as the Best of Weddings.
Here is a review from their listing on TheKnot
The Darby House was the best wedding decision we made. Not only is it the most beautiful venue I’ve ever seen, the staff is phenomenal. Both were kind, fun, and professional and handled everything so perfectly. While we originally planned for an outdoor ceremony, due to the weather, we moved it indoors, and the indoor ceremony space was just as beautiful, this is not the case will all venues. When we had communication issues with our DJ, Alissa did everything she could to get in contact with them. We were so appreciative of their organization. The perfect venue, hands down.
Bridal Suite and Grooms room
I’m absolutely in love with the spacious Bridal Suite and Grooms room at Darby House, equipped with all the comforts and amenities needed for a memorable wedding day. The Bridal Suite is a dream! It can accommodate up to 20 people, perfect for those last-minute touch-ups with the bridal and wedding parties afterward. And, let’s not forget the private restrooms, vanity spaces, and that stunning 3-panel mirror- every bride’s fantasy!
Then there’s the Groom’s room. It’s a haven for relaxation before the big moment. I mean, who wouldn’t want to destress with a quick game of foosball or catch the latest game on a massive 75? flat-screen TV? It’s these little touches that make Darby House such a unique and fantastic wedding venue. I simply can’t get enough!
Wedding Venue 2: Nationwide Conference Center
In talking about the Nationwide Conference Center, I find it to be a truly remarkable venue with customizable wedding packages and unique venue choices that create an unforgettable experience for every couple. One of the things I personally love about this place is that it’s an all-in-one location that caters to multiple styles. Whether you’re into an elegant rustic vibe or a more sophisticated ballroom setting, this place has got you covered.
Imagine saying your vows in a Tuscan-themed room, with a breathtaking view of a pond. And then there’s the Edgewater Room, a personal favorite of mine. It’s filled with natural light and has a warm, cozy fireplace that truly sets the mood.
One of the best things about this location is how convenient it is for both couples and their guests. More often than not, they can stay at the hotel, and I can capture those precious getting-ready photos right there in the same building. It’s a seamless experience that everyone appreciates.
Another standout feature of the Nationwide Conference Center is the unique brickwork design. It’s a gorgeous photographic element that adds a distinctive touch to any photo. It’s these elements and more that make this venue a top choice for many of my couples.
On the other hand, if you’re more into a modern vibe, the Grand Ballroom is a stunner. I still remember the awe I felt when I first saw the exposed brick and massive windows. And don’t even get me started on the attached atrium – perfect for a classy cocktail hour.
For those who prefer a touch of tradition, the NorthPointe Ballroom is an absolute gem. It’s got this regal feel to it, with its high ceilings and pre-function area. The adjacent courtyard is just the cherry on top.
And let’s not forget the food. No wedding is complete without a scrumptious feast, right? The gourmet cuisine options here are out of this world, and the fact that they’re customizable to fit your taste and budget is just icing on the cake. They even throw in floor-length linens to make everything feel extra luxurious.
Wedding Venue 3: Pinnacle Golf Club
I’ve visited Pinnacle Golf Club for as a photographer and a guest before, and its breathtaking golf course views, coupled with their impeccable catering services, made for an unforgettable experience. The country club’s catering services are top-notch, with a wide variety of food options available. I remember being impressed by the customizable menu that catered to different dietary preferences. The chefs and staff were professional, and it was clear that only fresh, high-quality ingredients were used.
Pinnacle Events, the company running the show, is reputable and experienced. They specialize in catering and organizing events with attention to detail and personalized service. I’ve heard nothing but positive reviews and testimonials from satisfied clients.
Wedding Venue 4: WatersEdge
Both the indoor and outdoor event spaces here at WatersEdge are equally stunning, but it’s their exceptional service that truly sets them apart. I’ve photographed over a dozen weddings here in my time, but the experience at WatersEdge was something else. From the get-go, their dedicated venue coordinator took the reins, providing a stress-free wedding that is honestly hard to come by these days. When I say the grounds seamlessly blend with any wedding decor, I mean it. I’ve seen it transform from a rustic barnyard theme to a glamorous, star-studded event overnight.
If you’re still on the fence about WatersEdge, let me outline a few key points:
- Versatile Spaces: Whether you’re planning a winter wonderland wedding indoors or a summer soirée under the stars, WatersEdge has got you covered.
- Exceptional Service: From the moment you step foot on the property, you’ll feel taken care of. They genuinely want your day to be as special as you do.
- Stress-Free Planning: With their in-house catering, bar service, and a coordinator to assist you every step of the way, you can focus on what truly matters – saying ‘I Do’.
Columbus Ohio Wedding Venue 5: Columbus Museum of Art
As a professional wedding photographer, I am thrilled to share with you the Columbus Museum of Art, a unique wedding venue that beautifully blends modern artistic spaces with historic architectural details. You’ll be spoiled with choice event areas such as the Schottenstein Pavilion, complete with skylights and a balcony, and the exquisite Edwards Court, boasting a magnificent glass ceiling sculpture. Or perhaps the open-air Sculpture Garden takes your fancy?
The museum and event center is committed to offering a wedding experience that is not only memorable but also in line with its mission of promoting creativity, culture, and community. Their packages are comprehensive, offering everything from tables, chairs, and linens to audio-visual support, parking, and an on-site event manager.
In addition to these amenities, you’ll also get rehearsal time, a museum membership, and exclusive access to gallery spaces showcasing stunning artworks and installations – a real treat for your guests and an amazing backdrop for your photos. I always do a little photo session on the wedding day where we walk around and use the artwork as a background.
Located in downtown Columbus, the museum’s location offers both convenience and stunning photo opportunities.
