I can only hope my photos will do this wedding justice. By far the most unique and colorful wedding I have ever been a part of. I could not say thank you enough to Tes and Micky for letting me be a part of this event. Tes and Micky’s family background is from the African county of Eritrea, and is showed in many customs brought into the wedding. This wedding took place over 2 days and involved a 2 and a half hour catholic mass at St Matthews in Gahanna Ohio. I have been to enough weddings to know what was happening but I understood none of the mass since it was spoken in the language of Eritrea. I felt better when Tes told me there were parts he did not understand as well. Both Tes and Micky’s family and friends were a great help teaching us about what was going on all day. A thank you to videographer KC for help as well. The food was amazing and completely cooked by members of the family. I was a little nervous to eat not knowing what everything was. My goal was to go up a get a little taste. That plan was gone when one of the family grabbed my plate, filled it up and just told myself and second photographer Heather to eat. Its all good she said and told us a few names of the food. None of which I can pronounce. It was very good, and yes very spicy. There were so many details to photograph it was hard to even make my final pick. The traditional henna painting on the women’s hands was incredible. I could have spent hours hearing about all the different traditions. I was a little overwhelmed by what to photograph next. I think Micky’s mom was getting tired of me pointing a camera at her, but I knew there was a once in a lifetime photo with her. There is a photo with her and Tes that I knew was it the minute I took it. Easily one of my favorite photos of all time.
I hope everyone enjoys this sneak peak of the wedding photography for Tes and Micky. I hope our photos can give everyone a glimpse into a fantastic wedding. Maybe for some a window into an event that some will never see. I can’t wait to attend another Eritrea wedding.
