So you just got engaged and the planning has started. Finding the right vendor for your special day is a challenge. Today’s blog is getting you some tips on finding the perfect photographer. There are so many Columbus wedding photographers to choose from how can you narrow down the list. Here are a few ideas to think about during your search.

Not all photographer’s technical abilities are equal.

So many people run out and buy a camera, watch a few videos and sell services as a professional photographer. Ask for their education or who they worked with. How did they learn photography? Do they use high end gear. Can they use lighting if needed? Do they have backups?

If it rains what happens?

I know you love the natural light photos all over the internet. Don’t worry I do too. But lets face it it is Ohio not southern California. So we have a winter and it rains. Make sure your photographer knows how to handle lighting and ask how they handle this.

Does your photographer know how to light a dark reception room?

Columbus has so many great reception venues. Guess what…..many of them have no windows. Or it does get dark at some point. I have studied so many of the worlds best photographers and many of them even struggle with this. Look at some of the sample photography portfolios and ask to see a reception similar to yours. See how the light looks. Make sure you are still good with the style.

Photography is about a great story not just one great image.

What I am trying to say is look at an entire day from a Columbus Ohio photographer. You want to see that the style and great photos are there all day and not just a few images. To be a top photographer you need to be great at the morning, ceremony and reception. Not just the bridal session. Its a wedding story not just about one photo.

Each has it’s own place. What it comes down to is what do you want the images to look like. What’s important to you and what do you feel comfortable with. I have many couples that just want me during most of the day. It creates a low key relaxed day. That being said I do several weddings each year with a large crew. I always state I want to make sure the couple is good with a paparazzi.
