My Photography Style.

Born from 20 years as a professional photographer. I have worked in New York, Columbus and traveled to destinations all over North America. My beginnings were in the fashion and commercial side of photography. Yes I started out as a photographer in Columbus OH working many of the area accounts. This helped me develop a style that I love and I hope you do too.

Why is style so important?

It really is the foundation of your photography. A bride and groom should always look for a style they love first and then move on to personality and prices last. Find a style that is consistent and then takes in your personalities and blends in the style of your day.

So whats my photography style?

Its a true blend of emotion, candids and trendy portraits

Emotional Images

Photography can be split in 2 areas. The first you will hear many terms. Candids, photojournalism or editorial photos. The second is the more posed portraits. How do I link them together? Its the emotion a photo shows that adds just that extra something that makes it memorable to you. Candids are easier and filled with emotions. Laughter, love tears and smiles.

Bringing emotion into a portrait is what takes skill. Understanding how to start with light, build with posing, then accent with emotion will set a photograph apart from others. It is a true balance of posing a couple to look their best and letting a couple show their personalities to get an emotional portrait.

I am constantly looking for what is happening during the day. While I know what it typical that does not mean every day is the same. In fact sometimes the best photos are not the bride and groom but who is looking at the couple. It’s about always watching and observing.

Finding the perfect light

Natural light is a beautiful thing. I do consider myself a natural light photographer. I believe the best light will make a photograph magical. This is Ohio and that does mean we get rain and there are many reception venues with only overhead lights. So having a skill set to work with flash is a must. So the idea is to then create the best light with the tools I have. I do use a flash at most receptions. I also carry some of the newest LED lights like the Westcott Ice Light.

Photojournalism approach

I am a laid back guy. I like to just fade in the background during most of the day. I really want couples and guests to feel like I am not even there. I want the emotions and actions of the day to just flow. I am here to create images of the day not create your day. Many of my candids are turned black and white. I love the editorial feel of black and white processing. When taking a editorial look at things it helps photos be unique from others. Yes I can pose a veil shot the same every time but by watching and letting the scene evolve it then really can become a stunning photograph.

Soft dreamy images

I am not a big fan of all the filters out there for processing the images. I prefer closer to a natural look and softer look. I ask questions about your color palette for the day. I think about incorporating that color in every photo I can. That color also will lead me to create a “look” for your photography. Then I use that look as a guideline for the other color images.

Inspired and fun portraits

Every wedding I do various mini portrait sessions. This could be a first look, a guys or girls only session then of course a bridal party session. My clients do consider these an important part of the day. But, I don’t want them to take all day either. Location is mostly depending of timing and driving areas. We might be at a great country club or need to drive downtown. We discuss to see what fits best. The first thing I look for is best light. Great light goes a long way in making a great photograph. Then I pretty much look at the location and my couples personalities to begin shooting. As a photographer I want an image that looks and feels like my couple. The worst thing is to take a completely fun goofy couple and try to make them serious super models. It will never feel like them. I also want a couple to feel the way they felt that day every time they look at one of their photography.

Hardest working professional photographer

Your day is important to me. Read most of my reviews and you will hear how hard I work to make your day special. I am constantly moving looking at angles, scanning the room for what is going on. I LOVE getting the perfect shot and I work hard to get it.
